AP Chemistry

AP Chemistry

AP Chemistry is geared toward highly motivated students who excel in the conventional Chemistry 11 & 12 programs and have a strong grasp of mathematics.

The AP Chemistry course includes:

  • Unit 1: Atomic Structure and Properties
  • Unit 2: Molecular and Ionic Compound Structure and Properties
  • Unit 3: Intermolecular Forces and Properties
  • Unit 4: Chemical Reactions
  • Unit 5: Kinetics
  • Unit 6: Thermodynamics
  • Unit 7: Equilibrium
  • Unit 8: Acids and Bases
  • Unit 9: Applications of Thermodynamics

In this course, students will:

  • plan scientific experiments involving chemicals use, and record and explain each step of the experiment;
  • study in depth the periodic table and achieve a greater understanding of its more basic elements;
  • learn how different types of chemicals combine, as well as the behaviour of molecules during the reacting process;
  • learn about mathematical principles and chemical principles involved in experiments and calculations;
  • become familiar with laboratory protocol, safety rules, equipment, etc.
  • gain an appreciation for chemistry as a comprehensive body of information and scientific processes.

AP Chemistry involves a number of new concepts, and it can take time for a student to begin to understand the issues. To help achieve better grades and a fuller understanding of this complex subject, a high percentage of students opt for one-to-one and small group tutoring.
